It is fine if you want to make aa phone call once in a while, but you can't use it on daily basis. I've tried it with different routers and even different hi-speed internet providers. Netgear Dual Mode Cordless Phone with Skype(SPH200D)I bought this phone a little over a year ago. You have to unplug the power and reset it. And for this price. It simply freezes and you don't even know that. It is just so annoying.
Sometmes it would unfreeze itself and suddnely you are getting 20 voicemails and 30 missed calls. It never worked good. It is always the same. It shows "online" but in fact noone can reach you. Than of course you need to adjust time zone again and other regional settings. It is more a toy than real phone. Forget it.
Now anyone can call me, not just Skype users. Associates can call and I no longer need to fumble for my headset.
I also use Skype alot to talk with associates overseas. I work from my home and needed a second line.
(It occasionally resets and loses connection). When I heard about this phone, I thought I would try it.
It has been working out quite well.It plugs right into my router and works fairly reliably. The computer doesn't have to stay on all the time.I went ahead and got a SkypeIn number.
I am pleased with this.
We've had this phone for over a year and we absolutely love it.I bought it for my dad so that he could walk around the house talking to all of his relatives. hes also happy with it.the range of this phone is unbelievable. it never ends=)overall a very very nice and good product.
I have never been able to make it work on an overseas call (trying to log into phone banking for an overseas account, etc).It does appear to work from the computer client, so who knows where exactly the problem lies. This is because Skype has a set DTMF.
This is a good way to not need to sit at the computer all the time. The phone generally works well and is simple to use. Skype has some great features (overseas dial-in numbers, Skype-to-go, etc) and provides this all for much cheaper than most VOIP providers.
I have been in contact with Netgear support over this, their response is, verbatim: "Unfortunately the issue you are seeing is a known issue with most stand alone Skype phones from a variety of companies."Guess what Skype say when I forwarded this on to them:"We are aware that in some cases it is not possible to dial extension numbers using Skype. The speaker-phone is a nice feature.
Previous reviews mentioned caller-id issues, but this seems sorted now. However, there is one VERY annoying problem -- touch-tones very rarely work. We are working to solve this issue."This is incredibly frustrating when you're doing things like dialing into conference calls that require long strings of numbers.
good luck getting it sorted out.
This a great product matched with skype and it will give you very cheap local and international calling. It costs about $9.99 for unlimited ~ (10000 minutes )to many many countries and only $3 for unlimited US and canada calling. It also works very good
